BNA 8
Title:  BNA 8
Description:  Burlington Northern Railroad BNA8, named CANADIAN RIVER, at Canal Street in Chicago, Illinois on August 12, 1982, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. The following is from http://www.fobnr.org/bncarlist/passenger/bna8.htm :

This lightweight business car was built in 1947 by Pullman-Standard for the former GN as their A-28. In the late 60's the GN renumbered this car as A-4, and repainted it Big Sky Blue. Entering the 1970 BN merger, it remained that same way, with only the initials changing from GN to BN. One year later this car was repainted into the standard green & white scheme, but it still kept it's A-4 desination. Ten months later it acquired the nomenclature BNA-8 and was named KOOTENAI RIVER. It remained that way through it's 1974 general rebuilding until 1981/82, when it got a major overhaul and a new name, CANADIAN RIVER. In 1982, BNA-7 and BNA-8 switched names! We think in early 1982 there were actually two CANADIAN RIVER cars.

BNA 10
Title:  BNA 10
Description:  Burlington Northern Railroad BNA10, named COMO, at Galesburg, Illinois on June 11, 1983, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. The following is from http://www.fobnr.org/bncarlist/passenger/bna10.htm : BNA-10 - COMO started out as a 1951 AC&F product bought by the former GN for the newly equipped Empire Builder. Originally painted in the Empire Builder scheme (numbered 1209), by the time of the merger though it had been repainted into the Big Sky Blue scheme. Amtrak did not acquire this car for its fleet, and it lanquished around Como shops waiting for further use. Finally in 1977, BN decided to rebuild this car and place it into the Business Car fleet as BNA-10 and naming it (appropriately) COMO. It continued this way until 1995 when it was repainted into the Executive scheme.

BNA 13
Title:  BNA 13
Description:  BNA 13 at Saint Paul, Minnesota on May 22, 1984, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. The following is from the Friends Of the Burlington Northern web site: This 60 seat coach started out as an AC&F product for the GN's 1951 "International" train (GN 1115), where it continued throughout its life. Upon the merger, BN (and Amtrak) did not continue running the "International", and this car like many others, became surplus. After sitting around for awhile waiting to be used, it was given, and used, a MofW number, 968078 in 1973. Even though it had a MofW number, it was used in certain 'special' passenger trains. These were usually trains ran by certain divisions for Boy Scout jamborees, taking underpriviledged kids to educational or recreational areas, and certain shipper specials. After it's 1982 rebuilding, it was transferred from a MofW number to the Business car fleet as BNA-13, it's disposition is unknown at this time.

BNA 22
Title:  BNA 22
Description:  BNA 22 at Saint Paul, Minnesota on May 22, 1984, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. The former Dechutes River was renamed Stevens Pass. This car's heritage comes from the Great Northern, who bought the car new as the Skykomish River, GN #1260. Burlington Northern renamed the car to Stevens Pass and renumbered it BNA #22. On January 21, 1999, the BNSF renumbered the car to BNSF #60. The car had been remodeled by the Great Northern in 1963, and the Burlington Northern in 1982. The car's job was to function as a crew sleeper. Built in 1950 by the Pullman-Standard Company for the Great Northern Railway as part of the mid-century addition of the Empire Builder. Originally built as a 8 duplex roomette, 3 double bedroom, 1 compartment 4 section sleeping car. The Skykomish River served on the Empire Builder until the merger with the Burlington Railroad. In the early 1960's the popularity of the open section was declining so Burlington Northern sent the car back to Pullman to be rebuilt. After emerging from the Pullman shops the car received 3 new double bedrooms in place of the sections and was renamed Stevens Pass. After BN got out of the passenger business the car was retained for executive service and was rebuilt several times by both BN and BNSF. During the BNSF rebuild the entire car was painted with silver Imron, installed new stainless fluting, rebuilt the entire vestibule end of the car with new stainless steps, end sheets, custom stainless vestibule doors and stainless vestibule floor. In 2003 the car became surplus to BNSF and was sold to Ozark Mountain Rail Car who returned the original name to the car.

BNA 23
Title:  BNA 23
Description:  Burlington Northern Railroad BNA 23, named Stampede Pass, at Saint Paul, Minnesota on May 22, 1984, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. The following is from the Friends Of The Burlington Northern web site: This car was built by Pullman in 1950 for the NP's North Coast Limited as its number 364, where it continued in service through the 1970 merger, and up until the 1971 creation of Amtrak. This car was not purchased by Amtrak, and BN declared it surplus, storing it at Como Shops. When BN decided they needed a sleeper for Business Car use, they pulled this from storage and overhauled it in 1974. With the desire to eliminate the need for the "heater cars", this car was modified again in 1982 to provide "hotel power" for all Business Cars, by installing 3 diesel engine generator sets, it still retained three bedrooms however? (I wonder what it was like to sleep with three running diesels ?) This car was painted in the black and cream 'Executive' scheme in 1994, but is now painted silver.

BNA 24
Title:  BNA 24
Description:  Burlington Northern Railroad BNA24, GLACIER VIEW, at Canal Street in Chicago, Illinois on August 12, 1982, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. The following is from the Friends Of The Burlington Northern web site: This 85' full-dome car started out as a product of the Budd company for the GN's re-equipped 1955 Empire Builder. Arriving in the orange/green "EB" scheme ( numbered GN 1390 ), it was repainted in 1968 into the pre-merger green/white "hockey stick" scheme as a test for eventual repainting of the entire fleet once the BN merger happened (this car was never painted BSB). After the merger, this car continued in Empire Builder service, right through Amtrak service on the "Builder", still in the "hockey stick" scheme, albeit with an Amtrak number. It was eventually repainted silver with the red&blue stripes to match the rest of the Amtrak fleet. In 1979 Amtrak brought out a new series of cars, the "Superliners", and retired most if not all of the old cars in their fleet. BN saw this as a great opportunity to acquire this car and make it their 'signature' car of the business car fleet. During it's 1982 rebuilding, it acquired theater seating and a full glass window for the rear of the car, oh yeah, it was painted back to green & white again too. In 1993, this was one of the first cars to be painted into the black and cream "Executive" scheme, being done at that same time as the first of the new SD-70MAC's started arriving in this same paint scheme. In 1997, this car was again one of the first ones to be painted into the now standard all silver cars.

BN Air Car 90
Title:  BN Air Car 90
Description:  Burlingtnn Northern Railroad Air Car 90 at Saint Louis, Missouri on May 19, 1982, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. The COTS stcker indicates that the flat car was built in 3-29. Stenciled on the large box was the following: THIS CAR FOR USE AT ACBL NORTH ST. LOUIS COAL UNLOADING FACILITY, ONLY . I believe ACBL meant American Container Barge Company, and they had a rail to barge coal tranqfer facility in North Saint Louis. I have not found the purpose of this car, presumably this car was used to keep the air brakes charged as the unloading took place. -If anyone knows more, please leave a comment.

This series of cars featured Transco sides with an unusually large number of closely spaced vertical ribs and individual steel panels mounted on the sides to accommodate the lettering. It has a seven foot door and an eight foot door equipped with a grain door.
