Description:  Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad Class XM-32F 63399 at Eola, Illinois on an unknown day in October 1981, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. The poor framing and light streak on the right is the result of this being the 38th exposure on a 36 exposure roll of film.. The CB&Q had 1,500 boxcars class XM-32F boxcars built at the Havelock, Nebraska shops during 1958, numbered 62500 - 63999. The 62500 - 63399 series all received the 81-B trucks and Superior five-panel doors, and cars in the 63400 - 63999 series received Improved Youngstown/Camel doors and the 79-A trucks. When built, all were painted in the new Chinese Red paint with Way of the Zephyrs and Everywhere West slogans in block lettering below the herald, and white stripes above and below the reporting marks. Those details were eliminated during the 1960's. Also during the 1960's the Scotchlite herald decal was replaced with a stencil, still in full red/black/white. By 1968, the BN merger was all but assured, and cars repaired after 1968 received the BN Cascade Green pre-merger paint scheme.

CB&Q Class XM-32F 63962
Title:  CB&Q Class XM-32F 63962
Description:  Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad Class XM-32F 63962 at Cicero, Illinois on an unknown day in August 1979, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. This train was departing Cicero, I happened to be on the other end of the bridge. As I saw the CB&Q car pop out from under the bridge, I knew it was unusual, so I started running. This is as far as I got. My shadow is in the reporting marks. This can only be described as a spartan paint scheme, and does not fit any of the following.

The CB&Q had 1,500 boxcars class XM-32F boxcars built at the Havelock, Nebraska shops durink 1958, numbered 62500 - 63999. The 62500 - 63399 series all received the 81-B trucks and Superior five-panel doors, and cars in the 63400 - 63999 series received Improved Youngstown/Ccmel doors and the 79-A trucks. When built, all were painted in the new Chinese Red paint with Way of the Zephyrs and Everywhere West slogans in block lettering below the herald, and white stripes above and below the reporting marks" Those details were eliminated during the 1960's. RBBQ 77016
Title:  RBBQ 77016
Description:  RBBQ 77016 at Cicero, Illinois on October 15, 1983, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. The following is from Bulletin #12 of the Burlington Route Historical Society: "In January 1966 Havelock (the CB&Q's shops in Havelock, Nebraska) produced 100 RBL's for the Q, RBBQ 77000-77099. These 50 footers were quite similar to RBBQ79800-79899 built a year earlier, the main external difference being the use of a more modern Camel plug door, centered on the carbody this time. Inside, the first 50 cars had Evans two piece load dividers and 2-D side fillers." The entire 77000 to 77249 number series is listed in the October 1971 edition of the Official Railway Equipment Register (ORER) as AAR Car Type Code R206, AAR Mechanical Designation RBL. It is wearing the pre-merger paint scheme, the original plan was to paint in the word NORTHERN below the word BURLINGTON, but the font was changed to a thinner style after the meger, so the plan was never implemented.

RBBQ RBL-5 77161
Title:  RBBQ RBL-5 77161
Description:  RBBQ RBL-5 77161 at Cicero, Illinois on an unknown day in June 1891, photo by Chuck Zeiler. This car was likely in captive service. I managed to photograph it on three different dates between 1979 and 1981, all at Cicero. This car was one of 150 insulated boxcars built at the CB&Q's Havelock, Nebraska shops in 1967 numbered 77100-77249, this particular car is stencilled BLT. 8.67 HV. One the end it is stencilled (top to bottom): C-60 AXLE, 33" IW C.S. WHLS., ROLLER BEARINGS 6X11, 3 11/16" SPRING TRAVEL, KEYSTONE. The last stencil, KEYSTONE, refers to the cushion underframe.

This was one of 150 cars built during July and August 1967, road numbers 77100 - 77249. The differed from the previous batch of RBL class cars in the improved door handle on the Camel plug door, and the lack of roofwalks and full height ladders to reach the roof. The ICC banned the roofwalk and associated ladders on new cars built after January 1, 1967. As a result, the new cars' handbrakes were also positioned low on the end of the car. The herald was also positioned slightly different between the two series of cars.

RBBQ RBL-5 77165
Title:  RBBQ RBL-5 77165
Description:  RBBQ RBL-5 77165 at Cicero, Illinois on an unknown day in November 1979, photo by Chuck Zeiler. The CB&Q shops in Havelock, Nebraska built 150 insulated boxcars in 1967 numbered RBBQ 77100-77249. When built, they were painted in a forest green and stencilled in the standard Burlington font and the Burlington Route herald was applied to the now blank plate on the right side. This car is stencilled BLT. 6.67 HV, however, it appears it went back to Havelock for repairs as it is also stencilled HV 11-69. At that time, the pre-merger paint scheme was applied, with the intention of painting the word NORTHERN below the word BURLINGTON after the merger was approved. By the time the merger was approved, the font had been changed to a thinner style, which is understandable given the unfortunate spacing of the letters GT in the BURLINGTON on a ribbed car.
