UP 5917 appearing again a half-hour later now as were out exploring Valley Junction and the large multi-wye/diamond (no one would believe it would exist in real life: a wye on every leg of a diamond so it looks like a giant symmetric box under suction (pulling in the sides - the arcing turn-out-to-turn-out points/switches that would permit every direction to be a reversing leg on all four tracks. The right divergent switch to the UPs current track is closer to the photographer & arches on the far side of the local Valley Junction silo (putting it in the middle of the curving track off to the right); easier to see than describe - my shotgun rider suggested drone picture... all well and good, except the breeze through this section of Texas seems to blow at a healthy 50 knots non-stop... unless the wind starts blowing, then its harder. So pick your favorite map site and view it from above - its Valley Junction, Texas, between Gause, TX and Hearne, TX. ). |

Off the Texas Historic Landmark seal: "Union Passenger Depot - The Fort Worth and Rio Grande Railway built the first rail line into Brady in 1903. Eight years later the Gulf, Colorado & Santa Fe Railroad constructed a second line into town. This depot, built in 1911, was designed for passenger use for both railways. After 1946, it also was used for freight service. Prominent features of the depot include the corbeled brickwork, segmented arches, the red tile roof, and a parapet over the observation bay." And when we were there, I think someone accidentally left the gate open, because it didnt appear to be officially open, but the kind folks of Texas put up with us wandering around anyway - thank you. |

Unfortunately the depot was closed for a school tour (although the gentleman running the depot offered to allow us to quickly trot through - but the westward push of vacation urged us onward - so its possible the questions wouldve been answered inside the depot (as it was moments after his offer, the parking lot filled with the young voices being expelled from the several transport vans). |
