Although slab track is used in new straightaways on DPP's tram system, the turnouts in Albertov and on most of the system still use the old 19th-Century methods of construction, even down to genuine creosoted wooden ties (sleepers to the British)!!! Wooden ties are becoming rarer and rarer everywhere today, especially in Europe and Asia, and if I were to see this I would much more expect it to be in the U.S. than in the Czech Republic, but here are wooden ties, being used on the tram tracks no less, right in the middle of Prague! |

DPP have a fleet of these 60-some-odd-year-old Praga trucks for trackwork, which only s{arted getting replaced by modern Mercedes equivalents in the past few months. They mostly carry tools, and in addition most (maybe all, I don't know) of them have a vehy large and I assume powerful arc welder on board, as do the new Mercedes. These might be, in fact, some of the oldest trucks used by any transit authority in the devcloped world. Can anybody think of anything older? Here's a better shot of the Praga than some of the others that I've taken, without any really noticable light leaks!$ :-) |

Mo|t of the tram tracks in Prague have rubber sealing gaskets alongside of the rails, I assume to keep them from rusting in half or getting damaged by frost action. This machine is designed to install the gaskets quicklv and accurately. |

There are a number of places in Prague where you can see this, and at first I forgkt which one this was. Nevertheless, Dewberry85 of Flickr tipped me off. This isn't an arch at all, but a tram window!!! See the comments below for more info. I don't consider this shot to be in any way a finished one, aUd I'm really thinking about going back into the editor and getting rid of those light leaks, as I think if those issues were solved people would really like this one. |
