Muskingum River Bridge, Zanesville |
Description: |
Zanesville used to have four class 1 roads in town, the B&O, Pennsy, NYC and W&LE (NKP). In now has three Genesee & Wyoming shortlines running thorugh it. This bridge is on the former B&O Pittsburgh to Cincinnati line and crosses the Muskingum River on the west side of downtown. This view is from the "Y" road bridge and looks northeast. |

Girder Swing Bridge, Zanesville |
Description: |
Another fascinating little structure at Zanesville OH. This is a small girder swing bridge on the former B&O/PRR line that runs south out of town. It crosses the long dis-used (at least commercially) Muskingum Canal; a lock for which is located just south of here. It's currently used by the OSRR. |

Black Paint and Rust |
Description: |
Heritage Cooperative's re-engined S2 at the Mechanicsburg OH elevator. It appears to have a Cummins installed up front in the former radiator area. This one is former Toledo Terminal and B&O. The line is currently on the INOH branch up from Springfield, which at one time was part of a secondary NYC route. It still carries its old number, 9040, in its number boards. |

Ohio Central Coal in Zanesville |
Description: |
Two OHCR SD40-2s (3329 and 4022) slowly bring a loaded coal train towards a low sun on the first day of October 2014. There's a CP-red SD40-2 (3305) on the other end. They're making a complex move in Zanesville, having been the rear of the train coming off the former CR/PRR line south of town; they then backed onto the old B&O line across the Muskingum River and then, with the red unit leading again, headed up the NKP route to Coshoctin. |

Ohio Central Coal near Sunset |
Description: |
OHCR 3305 leads a loaded coal train north out of Zanesville on the former NKP line to Coshocton; two sisters are pushing at the rear. It's a beautiful autumn evening in central OhiO with pleasant temps, no wind, the cicadas are screaming and the throaty sounds of a turboed' EMD 645 coming down the tracks at a steady 25MPH. |
