Helping out
Title:  Helping out
Description:  A trip ran with Blue Mountain & Reading 425 in August 1986. There was no place to turn 425 at Port Jervis, so the steam engine was pulled off at Campbell Hall and run around the wye there. The M&E power here took the train into Port Jervis, where the 425 was reacoupled after backing to Port Jervis. Here a couple watches the M&E power roll the train toward Otisville tunnel.

Hard to catch
Title:  Hard to catch
Description:  But it wasnt easy!! In October 1987, Western NY NRHS ran a couple of circle trips from Buffalo through Rochester on the CR Chicago Line, down to Corning on the Corning Secondary, then back to Buffalo on the Southern Tier. I caught the Oct 17 trip out of Corning, and chased down the Canisteo River. The Es did what they do best-about 70 MPH-and I was doing 75 along River Rd from Addison, along with three other lunatics. The only thing that saved us is that the police presence down there was almost nil at the time-in 20 years of running that road, I think I saw a sheriffs car one time. We were cooking. I finally got ahead of the train at Carson, yielding this shot.

Coming in for a change
Title:  Coming in for a change
Description:  LIRR 103 ran the west end of the trip due to all the industrial trackage. The trip info promised a surprise, which turned out to be a pair of blue and yellow painted C 420s, with an FA coupled to their east end. The FA didnt add anything in the way of tractive effort, and its 244 engine had been removed, but it looked good. The engine change will take place just ahead, and the train will head to the Hempstead Branch and Mitchell Field.
