Caboose Of Memories
Title:  Caboose Of Memories
Description:  BN (ex-GN) X71 always makes me remember cabooses just like it that I saw on BN trains passing through Wayzata, MN, during the mid-1980s. They vanished all too soon, but quite a few remain today, serving up nostalgia whenever I see one.

Just About Time To Depart
Title:  Just About Time To Depart
Description:  A view of the Osceola platform reveals a family waiting to watch the train depart and MTM crew members down by the station. Just about time to depart for Dresser. When we left this day, the train first backed up so Walt, the MTMer on duty in the NP RPO car (from which this pic was taken) could do a demo of dropping off and picking up mail on the fly. He performed both like the veteran railroader he is.

Title:  "Non-Complying Locomotive"
Description:  A tour of Soo Line 703's cab revealed this note from when the Wisconsin Central was bought by the Canadian National. (Sigh) Why to all the cool railroads have to be bought by the boring ones? I loved WC's eclectic roster! Thank goodness three of WC's GP30s escaped being scrapped.

Milwaukee Road Vet
Title:  Milwaukee Road Vet
Description:  The stencil says "WC", but the Wisconsin Central was the third owner of this Milwaukee Road bay window caboose. For years it served its original owner and then the Soo Line and the Wisconsin Central without being repainted from its original Milwaukee colors, perhaps because of how cabooses had been relegated to local service or other duties low on the totem pole by the time WC came into being.

Title:  Love Those Milwaukee Road Flangers
Description:  Here is the Colfax museum's Milwaukee Road flanger. I love these things, perhaps in part because they were fashioned from steam engine tenders. Note the museum's former Milwaukee Road baggage car in the background. This baby houses the other modules of the museum's Soo Line HO scale layout. Talk about "Soo/Milwaukee"!

Old Soo Line Depot
Title:  Old Soo Line Depot
Description:  The first Soo Line depot in Colfax was this wooden structure. When time came for the new one to be built, instead of tearing down the old station, the Soo moved it across the main line, turned the building around, enlarged it, and used it as a crew bunkhouse and other duties before it entered private ownership as a residence. The station now is part of the Colfax Railroad Museum.

The Oldest RPO In Preservation
Title:  The Oldest RPO In Preservation
Description:  This is Omaha Road RPO 301. Built in the 1840s, this car is the oldest Railroad Post Office in existence. Suitable trucks have yet to be found or fabricated, so newer ones are currently under the car, but otherwise this baby looks as she did during her heyday.
