DPUs |
Description: |
A three unit DPU trails this TXUX train rolling south on the main. For a while, KCS would put their power about 85 cars deep, making a 2x2x1 power set. This one, the train only 119 cars vs the usual 125, had the DPUs all on the rear. |

For some reason, the EMDs seem to be getting repainted faster than the GEs. Ive seen quite a few of the SD 70Ms and even some of the original order of SD 70ACes in the Belle scheme, but not many GEs. It was a surprise, then, to find this redone 4597 trailing on a northbound empty AEPX train. |

Belle DPUs |
Description: |
The configuration of coal trains flexes over time. Sometimes they run 2x2x1, then operating philosophy will change, and theyll go 2x3, then 3x2, then back to 2x3. For a long time, when the practice was 2x2x1, KCS would add helpers about 85 cars deep, leaving the home road power solo on the rear. Once again, we are in a 2x3 mode, and KCS has added their DPUs on the rear, which is where we find them on this southbound AEPX train crossing Cheri Whitlock Rd. Todays set includes a unit from south of the border. |

Not exactly. The practice on the Q trains is to put the DPU, if there is one, between the carload freight and the autos and intermodal. Todays Q train had only two autoracks trailing, so not much of a mid train. |

Lucky catch |
Description: |
I had just turned off Davodson Rd to head into town, when I saw movement near the Cobb mill. I pulled a quick U turn and was able to grab this northbound empty TXUX train. |

Making the grade |
Description: |
In one of those lucky moments, I was on my way back to the house after taking recyclables to the dump, going the long way round to see if the signal at South Siloam was lit. It was!! I pulled off, to be rewarded five minutes later with this northbound TXUX empty train. Some days, you just get it right!! |

Right moment |
Description: |
I was heading up through town when I saw the gates go down at one of the crossings farther down. I knew I could beat the train to Lincoln Av, and I was just about right, having enough time to pull into the team yard as this empty coal train approached behind a gray SD and a BNSF unit. Shot from the car window. That works!! |
