Going for a stroll on Madison Street
Title:  Going for a stroll on Madison Street
Description:  The UP local Y-BE51 has done their Thursday work in Loves Park (A gondola or two dropped off for Cimco scrapyard, two tanks picked up at Rock Valley Oil & Chemical) and is on the return trip to Belvidere.

Coming Through!
Title:  Coming Through!
Description:  The UP local out of Belvidere typically makes the trek up and down Madison Street just two days a week to switch out a few cars at a couple of customers in Loves Park. A portion of this ex-C&NW line, including this street running, is also used by a trolley car operated by the Rockford Park District. Its schedule is arranged so as to eliminate any possibility of conflict with a UP freight movement on this dark territory.

Crossing Seventh Street
Title:  Crossing Seventh Street
Description:  This location was on my bucket list since I found out it has a pair of old C&NW-era Griswold cantilever signals.

Almost Home
Title:  Almost Home
Description:  ...at least I think so. The Belvidere yard is just on the other side of the Irene Road crossing, and I lost the train in there. Not sure if they were done for the day after arriving there; or if they had more work to do around town, perhaps switching the big auto plant, or if that is handled by other jobs. I never heard a peep out of this train on the scanner, so I must not have had the right one of UP's multitude of frequencies activated.

Empty grain train for DeLong rounds the Oak Grove Rd. curve
Title:  Empty grain train for DeLong rounds the Oak Grove Rd. curve
Description:  Thanks to a timely heads up on the Facebook group, I got here just in the nick of time to catch this. This is on a short (3-ish mile) stub of the former Kenosha-Rockford "KD Line," this portion of which also served to connect Harvard with South Beloit until sometime in the 1980s. Now its only reason for existence is to serve the DeLong (formerly Seegers Grain) elevator on the west edge of Chemung. The train will stop here and the UP power will go in the hole on the stub track to the right. DeLong's SW7 will then dart in and grab the empties.

Swinging Down
Title:  Swinging Down
Description:  Once the train comes to a stop, the conductor will uncouple the power, then it will pull ahead and he will line the switch so it can go in the hole on the stub track to the right.

Waiting Patiently
Title:  Waiting Patiently
Description:  DeLong's SW7 (formerly the sole power rostered under the name Chicago-Chemung Railroad, when it and the line were both owned by Seegers Grain) has been shuttling grain hoppers back and forth on this short section of ex-C&NW trackage for quite a few years now. Built in 1950 for C&O, it still carries the paint and number applied by the Chicago, Madison & Northern in the early '80s.

UP 2613
Title:  UP 2613
Description:  The UP power pulls partway across Oak Grove Road to clear the switch so it can reverse into the stub track and clear the way for DeLong Co. 202 to come get the grain MTs. I used HDR in Photoshop CC 2021 to add some life to the colors in this and several of the next few photos taken on this overcast day.

DeLong's SW7 moves in to take over
Title:  DeLong's SW7 moves in to take over
Description:  The emergency contact number blue tags on the crossing posts still say "Chicago-Chemung Railroad Corp." The reporting mark for this Seegers Grain-owned outfit was CCUO, but the engine is now lettered TDCX presumably for "The DeLong Company," which is also emblazoned on the backs of the high-vis vests worn by the crew.

Title:  TDCX 202 is flagged over Oak Grove Road
Description:  Besides the crew operating the engine, DeLong had flaggers stationed at each of the three crossings they would run over between here and the elevator.

UP 6067 is DPU on a westbound Geneva Sub coal train
Title:  UP 6067 is DPU on a westbound Geneva Sub coal train
Description:  I spotted the headlight of this train at the crossing in "downtown" Franklin Grove, and waited for it to slowly make its way to me. After shooting video of the head end (UP 6021 leader, plus UP 7474), I started driving east towards Rochelle on IL-38 but grabbed this profile of the DPU motor from the car window.

Illinois Railway power including an ex-NS SD60M
Title:  Illinois Railway power including an ex-NS SD60M
Description:  I was surprised to find the 410 not already in the database, hopefully someone who knows its history can fill it in. It appears to have a Leslie 3-chime horn and, interestingly, no rear ditch lights. Edit: Thanks to whoever updated the unit history. It's ex-BN/HLCX recently renumbered from its as-built number of 8163. Per other photos on here it received the Helm blue dip sometime between March and April of 2007, prior to that it was still in BN Cascade Green.
