Caboose and jennies
Title:  Caboose and jennies
Description:  An ore train rolls through Hoffman Av under Daytons Bluff with a BN pool caboose trailing. My approach was "get em while you can," since the caboose was an endangered species on class 1 roads by this time. Already they were almost completely gone from road freights in the east.

Going green
Title:  Going green
Description:  This eastbound BN train has a standard pool caboose on the rear, making for green up front and behind. It was too far away to get the number, as it is not in my notes. Still, good to see a caboose. There were a surprising number of them out on the road while I was in the upper midwest. I saw a half dozen this day in St Paul.

Main line van
Title:  Main line van
Description:  Virginia required cabooses on trains, so every train in the state had one. The railroads were not so keen on this, now that EOT technology had become cost effective and practical. The fans liked it, as we got to see this vestige of another era for a while longer. This train on the Southern main arriving at Pot Yard had this Southern car trailing. Look at the gons full of phone poles. Classic southern load.

Title:  C&O on the RF&P
Description:  An omen of things to come for the RF&P, a Chessie caboose rolls south on the rear of a train bound for Richmond. In a few years, the Commonwealth of Virginia will sell its stake in the railroad, and CSX will take it over. How about that ACL box, 20 years after it went into SCL??

Title:  Any ideas??
Description:  This possibly B&O caboose was parked at a restaurant in New Jersey. Im guessing somewhere in the Little Ferry/Ridgtefield Park area. I have no information on it, so dont know if its even a real B&O caboose, or something else, but the restaurant owner liked the B&O, so painted it that way.

TTX caboose
Title:  TTX caboose
Description:  Besides the railroads, a number of other operations had cabooses for various"purposes. Amont them was Trailer Train, which assigned this one to Conrails TV 301, seen at Hancock NY. Usually this meant someone from the company was riding the train for any of a number of purposes, either as an escort for a load, or to observe, among other things.

Title:  Short car
Description:  LIRR had some of these small cabooses that youd think would be used primarily on peddler freights and short trips on the west end, with the bay window cars going "on the road" as it were, but all of them were used systemwide. This short car is trailing RF 7 at Fresh Pond a job it i well suited for.
