The Erie built some interesting right of way, including here, where the eastbound track is higher than the westbound. BFOA starts into the higher segment as it leaves the east end of town. |

Sometimes the D&H would need to turn an engine of set of power. There was no working turntable at East Binghamton-the DLWs table had been out of service for years, and it would be after CP took over that a new one would be built-so it would have to be wyed via BD. Many of the elements of this scene, taken 27 years prior to this being posted, are now gone. The sempahore-gone. Track 2-gone. The bridge I'm standing on-gone. The power, an SD 26 and an SD 39-gone. NY 70 to the left of the tracks is still there; the hills are timeless. The Sea Land stacks of this SLN 5 now travel via another route; Sea Land itself was sold to Maersk, so theyre gone too. And its been nearly 40 years since EL last ran a train here, at MP 352 near Dalton. |

Must be a jet |
Description: |
My notes dont show what train this is, but it was parked at Bevier St. At the time, JET 1 was the only train that did not yard at East Binghamton, so Im guessing this is JET 1 waiting on a crew. In a nice touch, the leader is one of the B&Ms last order of new power, GP40-2 303. |

Thats a lot of power |
Description: |
A side view of the train seen at a more head on angle elsewhere. I believe this is JET 1, which was typically overpowered, probably in hopes there would be enough units still running at the end of the trip to get it into the terminal. |

Guilford looking good |
Description: |
Much as I hate to say it, the power in a complete set, fresh paint, and clean actually looks decent. Here we see BUME rolling slowly north against the grade as it passes Phelps St |

Stretched out |
Description: |
The opposite side view of JET 1 shows the train stretched out on the Buffalo Runner, with a mix of power that this train seemed to get pretty routinely, including a B&M GP 9 that these trains seemed to get pretty routinely. Only four units today-either it was a light train, or Guilford was getting more confident. |

Still blue |
Description: |
A pair of the MK rebuilt C 424s sit outside the Binghamton shop. These two escaped the Guilford paint booth, and are still in their blue D&H scheme, a bit worse for wear, but still blue. |

Happy Fourth!! |
Description: |
For the third time in ten years, I caught a D&H Bicentennial unit. The prior times were in Oneonta in 1981, and Mechanicville in 1981. Today it's outside the shop in Binghamton. In a year, it will be on the Tiogal Central. This unit was one of eight(501-508) RS 3s rebuilt by MK in the late 70s. The others were gone by this time. |

Still Alco |
Description: |
Despite having acquired a fleet of GEs, and later a number of EMDs, the D&H could still put together an impressive Alco consist, such as this one at East Binghamton. |

Fate is sealed |
Description: |
D&H 452 appears to be done, as it is now missing some windshield glass and other parts. Only a couple of weeks prior, I caught it working on a pusher set. Too bad, its a nice looking unit-much better than the Guilford brown on the rest of them. |
