HAN 2 in for a crew change |
Description: |
HAN 2 is pulled up on the Buffalo Runner waiting for a new crew. Conrail would not let NYSW change crews on the main most of the time, so they had to either pull up the runner at QD for eastbounds, or back the train into the CP yard for westbounds. Todays train has an SD 45 and GP 38 for power, so there may be some diesel shuffling going on as well. |

NY 7 with a local unit |
Description: |
NYSW 2012 leads this NY 7 into Binghamton. While NYSW was not above using small power on road trains, the long hood first orientation of 2012 makes me think the stack outlawed before it got to Binghamton, and 2012 was sent out to retrieve the train. You never knew what to expect from the Susie Q. The 2012 leads a trio of SD 45s as a set of CP power sits on the 2 runner on the ex DLW in the distance. |

SU 100 |
Description: |
SU 100 was the trackage rights train that started it all. When NYSW got the ex DLW Syracuse and Utica lines in 1982, they negotiated trackage rights from Passaic Jct to Binghamton over Conrail to move cars from one part of the operation to the other. Those trains were symbolled SU 99 west and SU 100 east. This SU 100 is getting ready to roll to Jersey with the usual non stack traffic. There must not have been an eastbound stack that day; NYSW usually added cars at Binghamton to any stacks going to Jersey. |

Line up in the yard |
Description: |
A line of NYSW units sits at Binghatmon. Most will not see the road again on the Susie Q. The 2062 was one of the GP20's that came from the TP&V; the 4006 is one of the original four units from 1988, and was sold to the P&W along with the others. |

Mixed up set |
Description: |
For a while in the 1990s, NYSW could put together a pretty good looking set of power. After Walter Rich passed, and most of the SD 45s were sold or scrapped, they picked up used diesels from a number of sources. The result was, it became harder and harder to find a matched set of power. This SU 100 is a case in point, rolling a 63 car train east past the Kirkwood water plant, though it does have one of the two SD 40T-2's that they had painted at the time. |

The 99 arrives |
Description: |
SU 99 arrives at BD on a sunny February morning with a yellowjacket leading three other units that are, well, not as well dressed. After a decade or more of good looking power, the NYSW has reverted into the mix of hand me down colors that were its hallmark in the 80s. |

Made the meet |
Description: |
An eastbound CSX detour train waits at Susquehanna as Q 271 pulls away from the meet. Ill chase Q 271 back to Binghamton. The water tower support is for the tower that once supplied water to the Erie car shops, which stood beyond the train for over 100 years. |

From the road |
Description: |
We chased an eastbound detour train, probably Q 156, or possibly Q 404, I didnt note the symbol, to Susquehanna, then caught this Q 271 there going back. We were able to grab this shot along PA 171 where the tracks go away from the road at Red Rock. Thats my then girlfriend, now wife, Diane, getting a shot of the action too. |
