OIBU in the late afternoon |
Description: |
OIBU was a pretty reliable afternoon train at Binghamton, which made for some great lighting, such as on todays train, working QD yard. The steel structire at right is a Marconi tower. The Lackawanna RR was an early experimenter with radio communication, and had erected the tower to transmit from the station to trains in 1913. There is a NY State historical marker to note its significance. |

WABH 11 was the local that did whatever work needed to be done at Binghamton. For a long time, it got GP 38s or U23B/B23-7s. In the early 90s, it started getting GP 40s, such as todays train, heading east at BD. |

JC coal |
Description: |
A UNE coal train with 87 cars for the NYSEG Goudy Generating Station on the old DLW main in Johnson City rolls into the west side of Binghamton. For some reason, these trains drew 4 axle power most of the time, even though the road units rarely went to the plant. Local power off WABH 11 usually took the cars down in roughly 45 car cuts. |
