CB&Q Class XM-2 41457
Description:
Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad Class XM-2 41457 at Cicero, Illinois on an unknown day in June 1980, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. The CB&Q shops at Havelock, Nebraska built 600 combination door 40 foot 6 inch boxcars in 1959, numbered 41000 - 41599. They had a 100,000 pound capacity and all were painted in the ( then ) new Chinese red paint scheme. This car was stenciled: BLT.HV.12.59 and on the lower left: DOC. ASURUTA. NO SE CARGUE . The word CARGUE translates to LOADING, I'm guessing it means DO NOT LOAD, suggesting that perhaps this car had ventured south of the border sometime in its career.

CB&Q XM 41944
Description:
CB&Q XM 41944, Cicero, Illinois, August 1979, photo by Chuck Zeiler. I don't have much information on this car, it appears similiar to the CB&Q XM-33B's (#'s 24000-24349) built at the railroads Havelock, Nebraska shops in 1956. The cubic foot capacity of the XM-33B's matches that listed in the Official Railway Equipment Register (ORER). The AAR Car Type Code is listed as B201 in the January 1969 ORER, and as B207 in the October 1971 ORER. It is stencilled: HIDE LOADING, and the reweigh date is: CM-11-73.

CB&Q XP-1B 42000
Description:
CB&Q XP-1B 42000, North Avenue on the C&NW, Chicago, Illinois, October 1978, photo by Chuck Zeiler. I'm not sure about the original number of this car, but it appears similiar to the CB&Q 23000-23099 series. It appear to be rebuilt, judging by the paint and the lack of roofwalk. It's a 50 foot car with an eight foot door, stencilled: Hide Loading Only. The re-weigh date is: KC 5 74.

CB&Q Class XM-3B 47146
Description:
Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad Class XM-3B 47146 at Galesburg, Illinois on an unknown day in November 1981, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. The following is from the book, CB&Q Color Guide to Freight and Passenger Equipment, by Michael J. Spoor: In addition to the XM-3A boxcars, Havelock ( CB&Q Shops in Nebraska ) built 400 XM-3B boxcars during 1963. The only major difference between the two series was that the XM-3B's were equipped with Keystone cushion underframes which resulted in these cars carrying the HYDRAULIC CUSHIONING slogan while the XM-3A's were adorned with the CUSHION UNDERFRAME lettering.
