The retired GE was sent to Super Steel for rebuilding and returned to Union Pacific as RP20GE in May 2007. Judging from the oil stains and slanted exhaust stacks from engine #3 it would appear there has been some recent maintenance issues. |

Looking at home in UP's Davidson Yard wearing Armor Yellow and Harbor Mist Grey, this CIT Group SD40-2 has quite a history. Delivered to Canadian National as SD40 5196 in August 1971 by GMD this unit worked for CN until retirement then was rebuilt by NRE and sent to Union Pacific as SD40-2 4764 in September 1999. UP renumbered this unit to 2814 unit before releasing this EMD which then joined the CIT Group lease fleet as CEFX 2814 but still sporting the UP paint scheme with a flashy reflective nose. Some time after being released by Canadian National this diesel picked up the Dash 2 "window" on the long hood but still has the older Flexicoil trucks. |

A BNSF stack train is coming to a stop due to another BNSF manifest train stopped on the mainline ahead. While the stack train waits for traffic to clear the crossing I'm standing at will remain blocked leading to many angry motorists. |

When delivered to Santa Fe as SD40-2 5030 in October 1977 this EMD was assigned to high priority freights well into the 1990s. Since the BNSF merger this locomotive was renumbered first to 6345 then to 1800 and trading yellow and blue for black and orange. Since renumbering and repainting this locomotive was demoted to 2,999 horsepower making it (and all other SD40-2s on the roster) unfit for road service and now carries an SD39-2 stencil below the front cab walkway. The two stencils on the front anticlimber are "9 INCH MAXIMUM END PLATE HEIGHT" and "YARD OR TRAIL SERVICE ONLY". |
