PC Westbound Hump, 1972 |
Description: |
Yard Work. Here is an original photo that I took of Penn Central Railroad yard operations in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, during August of 1972. Shown here is PC engine #9020, an SW-1200 built by General Motors' Electro-Motive Division in 1957 and rated at 1,200 horsepower. It is shifting a gondola car at the eastern end of the Westbound Hump at the base of Bald Hill, next to US Route 22. Also visible are the PC's Samuel Rea Shop on the left and the town of Hollidaysburg on the right. |

In this artsy-shot using the rear-view mirror of my Datsun 240-Z, #9020 is at the very top of the Westbound Hump. In olden days, there was a two-storey Hump Tower located there. |
