8th Street. Here is an original photo that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad property in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 10 August 1963. Shown here (L to R) are the PRR's ROSE Tower (in white), the 8th Street ("Red") Bridge, three ALCo locomotives waiting for their next assignment. and a Baldwin road switcher working away. Visible in the foreground are the west- and eastbound passenger/through tracks, to include position-light Signal #2344. Visible in the middle are three ALCo AS-18AM locomotives: #8663, #8660, and #8672. Brush Mountain is visible in the far distance.

8th Street. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad locomotive in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 12 January 1964. Shown here is PRR engine #8969, a BS-16M built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1951 and rated at 1,600 horsepower. It is shifting some cars just short of the 8th Street Bridge in Juniata. Note the "tell-tales" dancin' in the breeze!

8th Street. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 12 January 1964. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #7220, #9646, #9770-B, and #9492. #7220 is an EFS-17M built by EMD in 1957 and rated at 1,750 horsepower. #9646 and #9770-B are EF-15A's built by EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each; #9646 was built in 1950, but #9770-B was built in 1951. #9492 is an FF-16 built by Fairbanks-Morse in 1950 and rated at 1,600 horsepower. They are about to pass under the 8th Street Bridge in Juniata with a 100-car mixed-cargo freight train destined for Enola and points East.

8th Street. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 12 January 1964. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #9700, #2014-B, #9700-B, and #2012. All were built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works. #9700 is a BF-15A built in 1950 and rated at 1,500 horsepower. #2014-B is BF-16 built in 1952 and rated at 1,600 horsepower. #9700-B is a BF-15A built in 1950 and rated at 1,500 horsepower. #2012 is BF-16 built in 1952 and rated at 1,600 horsepower. They are about to pass under the 8th Street Bridge in Juniata with a 100-car coal train destined for Enola and points East. Visible in the immediate background are at least eight cabin cars and PRR engine #7923, an ES-12 built by EMD in 1957 and rated at 1,200 horsepower. Several ALCo road switchers are on the move and will soon pass the Juniata E&M Shop on the far right.

Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #8446, #9623, and #9556. #8446 is an AS-16AM built by the American Locomotive Company in October of 1952 and rated at 1,600 horsepower. #9623 is an AF-16 built by the American Locomotive Company in December of 1951 and rated at 1,600 horsepower. #9556 is an EF-15 built by GM-EMD in September of 1948 and rated at 1,500 horsepower. They're passing under the 8th Street Bridge into the Westbound Receiving Yard with an 85-car mixed-cargo freight train and N-8 caboose #478021. Partially visible at the far left is ROSE Tower.

Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #2240, #2275, #2268, and #2528. #2240 is an EF-22 built by EMD in 1963 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. #2275 and #2268 are EF-25's built by EMD in 1964 and rated at 2,500 horsepower each. #2528 is a GF-25 built by General Electric in 1962 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. They are pulling a 70-car eastbound TrucTrain past the PRR's Juniata Erecting & Machine Shop (not visible on the right). This is a through train that will not stop in Altoona to change crews ~ unusual then, the norm now.
