Making the swap |
Description: |
CP 1810 and Tioga Central 62 swap gas cars at Owego in TCs yard. The line at left is Conrail's ex EL Southern Tier Line. The through truss crosses Owego Creek. The Tioga Central unit is on the ex Lehigh Valley Auburn Branch, which left the LV main at Sayre, running alongside the EL from there to Owego. D&H and LV had an interchange train that operated via that route to Owego, then over the EL to Binghamton, alternately with LV power and D&H power. A lot of interesting units showed up on it, including the D&H sharks. |

Lightning stripe in the snow. |
Description: |
One of D 22s other assignments was to run the Owego & Harford interchange to Owego twice a week, part of the trackage rights that D&H received as a condition of Conrails start up. A variety of power ran these trains over the years, including a wide variety of Alcos. By 2003 the Alcos were gone, but you could still find interesting power on the train. Here we see it head west from the new bridge connecting NY 17C to NY 17 across the river at Apalachin. |

D 22 crosses over from track 1 to 2 to the Buffalo Runner as it heads up to Bevier St behind a pair of lightning stripe GP 38s from the M-K rebuild a dozen years earlier. The City of Binghamton had done some rehab work on the overpass a few years earlier and put up a chain link fence, which limited the ability to take photos from it. D22 with ancient power |
Description: |
CP local D 22 ran two days per week to an interchange with the Owego & Harford. Todays effort has a pair of rebuilt GP9s for power, the leader in the short lived St Lawrence & Hudson scheme. It is seen outside the former Erie station passing NS local H2A. |

Backing it in |
Description: |
Upon arrival at Binghamton, D 22 found no room at the inn, so the yardmaster had him back into a track at Bevier St. One of the yard jobs will come over for the cars later. |

This is why you carry your scanner |
Description: |
I always carried my scanner with me(which, by the way, is illegal in some places, New York among them. See VTL section 397) just in case something turned up. Today was one of those days, as I heard D 22 calling the signal at 216-2. I was on the west side, and able to get into position to get a shot near Lester Av. This is the result, a lightning stripe GP 38 with 12 cars passing under Arch St. |
