Received from H Woodward by Benson bound for 146 Water St., Haverhill, Mass... I suspect the bill was under a dollar, back when a dollar was a days pay as my grandfather once said. /DL |

Fair Grounds Wreck |
Description: |
The Lewiston Fair Grounds Wreck C1902. It looks like double headder with MEC 28 & 30 hit or were hit by a passenger train coming in the other direction. I date this photo to the summer of 1902 and the scrap date listed in RR History for #30 in Sept. 1902. Both locomotives came from the Portland works and began service on the European and North American RR. #28 was E&NA #16, became MEC #82 and renumbered to #28 in 1900. Built in 1880, rebuilt in 1893 and scrapped in April of 1905. #30 was E&NA #9 which became MEC #78 and renumbered in 1900 to #30. /DL |

Station |
Description: |
c1905 No notes with this old Post Card. The MEC and GT ran in parallel on a north south axis here just south of Danvile Jct. I suspect this is the MEC station as it is closer to East Gray then the GT. Someone correct me if I’m wrong... /DL - - - The box car behind the station is TSTL&W 3226.. Wikipedia says this is the Toledo, St.Louis, and Western RR known as the Clover Leaf System. It went into business in Febuary 1881 as a 3 foot RR. It reorganized in 1886 and converted to Standard Gauge. It became part of the Nickel Plate December 28, 1922 which went on to be come part of NS today. |

The back of this old print simply states that L.B.W. took the photo sometime in 1919 in the Upper Yard at Lewiston. Description: |
C1970? From the back of the not so old print: - MC..259 new multiple tamper at Gray Maine - MEC MAG 2 cols crop - If I went thru my collection of MEC Magazines and found the right issue I suspect this photorgraph would jump out of the page. The date is an estimate. Typical of Maine Central they crew is working with what MEC called: bankrun gravel. /DL |
