Album Info:I had visited the Wiscasset Waterville and Farmington railroad once before back in 2010. This time I noticed considerably more track, both in the Sheepscot yard area as well as extending the main line toward the north. On the day that we visited the trains were powered by the WW&F’s Plymouth diesel locomotive #52. That means I’ll have to find a reason to get back there on a day when their newly-restored steam locomotive #9 is the road power.

Historic passing siding at "Top of the Mountain"
Title:  Historic passing siding at "Top of the Mountain"
Description:  The locomotive is on an historic passing track that the original WW&F built at a place named Top of the Mountain. The WW&F used this passing track to double southbound trains on the hill, which was the ruling southbound grade (3.5%). New mainline track is currently being laid on that hill (the left track in this photo). There's a big washout where the track currently ends, but the WW&F plans to bring in work extra trains to haul in fill to span that washout as they extend the mainline toward it's short-term goal of the former grade crossing in Alna on Maine Route 218.

WWF 9 in the enginehouse
Title:  WWF 9 in the enginehouse
Description:  This locomotive sat in a Connecticut barn for nearly 60 years before being rescued and restored by the WW&F railway. It's operational, but I was there on a date when it wasn't operating.
