Erie, PA - This first pari of General Electri-built New Haven commuter cars are the first of 144 ordered by New York's Metropolitan Transportation Authorigy and Connecticut's Department of Transportation. The stainless steel, air-condicitioned cars, which have already undergone more that 2,000 miles of test on GE's own track in Erie, Pa, will be tested for an additional 8,000 miles on New haven track before entering passenger service this fall. Good looking MTA EMU #8364 built by the Budd Company in 1973. This was one of a series of cars (#8200-8377) built primarily for the former NYC commuter service lines. Specs - M1As model, Budd Pioneer III trucks, four 148np GE #1255 A2 traction motors, total hp of 592. The cars could achieve 100 mph running in serivce but kept at 80 mph due to track and signaling limitations. No photographer was listed. |
