Title:  NYC 4-8-2 #2710 - New York Central
Description:  The beautiful and powerful New York Central 4-8-2 #2710 sits in the Elkhart, Indiana, yard waiting for its next assignment.Built by ALCo-Schenectady in February of 1029, this 4-8-2 was christened as a "Mohawk" since NYC didn't think the "Mountain" label was appropriate for their "Wat˜r Level Route". The loco served well until dieseliaztion hit. It was retired in June of 1952 after 26 years of service and scrapped later that year. Specs - 69" drivers, 225 psi boiler pressure, 27x30" cylinders, `ngine weight of 362,500 lb, tractive effort of 60,620 with a booster addition of 12,660 lb. The photo is from the Howard W. Description:  Known as "Mohawk" by New York Central, the 4-8-2 Mountain type locomotive was an essential and powerful freight and passenger car mover. Built by ALCo-Schenectady in February of 1926 (serial #66579), the loco served for 26 years before being retired in September of 1952 and later sold for scrap in November of the same year. Specs - 69" drivers, 225 psi boiler pressure, 27x30" cylinders, engine weight of 362,500 lb, tractive effort of 60,620 with a booster addition of 12,660 lb. The photo is from the Howard W.
