Title:
IC 3120 and IC 9603
Description:
A CN train approaches Towmen Rd., as it transitions from the former SOO rails to the former C&NW rails as it heads northeast at Shawano Junction, Fox Crossing, Winnebago Co., WI (formerly Town of Menasha, Winnebago Co., WI, from 1855 until 14 Apr. 2016) on 26 Jun. '22. This spot used to be named Fox River Junction, after several segments of the original C&NW main line through Menasha and Neenah were removed and a turnout was installed here which allows the bypass of missing C&NW rails by using former SOO rails. The facility visible in the background is Warehouse Specialists, Inc. (WSI), 1222 Ehlers Rd., Neenah, WI (physically located in Fox Crossing). It was used by Essity/SCA Tissue for quite a while. In 2019 the sign was changed to Clearwater Paper; they have since gone out-of-business. This facility has not received rail service for quite a while, but could be served via former SOO rails.

GTW 4917
Description:
A CN train, with a friendly engineer, passes the former C&NW depot as it hauls 6 cars northeast at Green Bay, WI, on 9 Jul. '22. The depot, designed by Charles Sumner Frost, was built in the Italian Renaissance Revival style and completed in 1899. Passenger train service ceased in 1971 but it was still used by the railroad for years. From 1996 until 2021, it was home to Titletown Brewing Co. When they moved to larger quarters in one of the neighboring former cannery buildings, a new restaurant moved in. The depot is also a stop on the Green Bay Packers' Heritage Trail. On the right is PPCX 800239, formerly AMTK 3222 'Palm Beach', formerly SCL 6602, formerly SAL 15. The 6-bedroom lounge car was built by American Car and Foundry Corp. in 1949 and ran on SAL/SCL between NY and FL for many years. AMTK spent $150,000 on repairs and remodeling after a wreck in 1974, but discontinued it from service in 1977. It was purchased from Amtrak by a private owner in 1978. He reconfigured the interior to 5 bedrooms, bar-lounge, and kitchenette. The restoration of the sleeper-lounge car was done well enough that it qualified to be pulled by AMTK trains. Not sure how long he owned it or who owns it now.

HLCX 1070
Description:
HLCX 1070 rests on former CN rails on the west bank of the Fox River at Green Bay, WI, on 9 Jul. '22. These rails were originally laid by the GB&W/KGB&W circa 1895. The swing bridge was built circa 1924, to replace an earlier bridge. Some references suggest that these rails and bridge were joint GB&W/C&NW. I got all excited when I first spotted this locomotive here, thinking the FV&LS (or FOXY) was waiting to cross the bridge to work the other side of the river. My excitement quickly turned to disappointment, when I realized the locomotive was silent and dark. The scene is bracketed by St. Mary's Cement on the left, and Graymont on the right.
