During the fall of 2006, the Union Pacific Railroad undertook an extensive track rehabilitation program and replaced the rails with 141lb rail throughout this stretch of track. |

"Talking" defect detector on the KCS-East St. Louis Sub at milepost 272.7, near the Pontoon Road crossing in Granite City, IL. This detector gives the total number of axles, the train's speed in MPH, the ambient air temperature, and tells whether or not it has any defects, such as a hot box. The radio signal transmitted by the detector is about 5 watts, and can be heard for about 5 miles. |
