Would you allow this man to handle your Hammerhead? |
Description: |
Even with a temperature in the teens, and a sub-zero wind chill, local 13s brakeman Jerry Munson has a smile on his face as he puts the train together and keeps hydrated with that good Kansas City water! |

Former ATSF Division Headquarters / yard office |
Description: |
After making a long pull and shove out of the west end of the yard, local 13 is backing up to make the double on its train, passing the restored Santa Fe brick depot. Once a division point office complex, its now home to a live theatre group, and for a few minutes each day, an Amtrak station stop. |

Rolling west near "Banner Cut..." |
Description: |
West of Sears, the 13 has its train rolling along at todays maximum speed of 40mph (account some restricted hopper cars). Thank goodness that ice- packed walkway on the firemans side of the BNSF 4232 is not used for access to the cab. |

Hey, there's an empty to be pulled... |
Description: |
A fairly new rail-served industry, Blicks Agricultural, is located just east of Cimarron KS. With a pair of spur tracks, perhaps the good car counts in and out are expected. But today, theres just on empty covered hopper, previously filled with potash from Canada, and used in the manufacture of farm fertilizers. |

Getting ready for a pick-up at Blicks, east of Cimarron |
Description: |
Blicks is designed to be worked westbound only, with just one connecting switch to the main track. Just to the right of the silhouette of the engr, the elevator at Cimarron is visible, where runaround moves could be made using the siding if a hot move had to made while running eastbound. |

"Derails' in the dirt..." not quite! |
Description: |
The west end of the Blicks industry spur is protected with a Hayes hinged derail and you can see how the term derails in the dirt came about when crews are using the radio to switch |
