SOU 5189 at East Bridge Tower |
Description: |
Once the tower operator at East Bridge Jct lines the switches, eastbound trains can leave the bridge and head for one of several locations (NS, CSX, or NOPB). This Southern local is leaving the NOPB interchange yard at the foot of the Huey P. Long bridge. The track the Southern local is on, as well as the track in the foreground are owned by the NOPB. The track behind the tower is the ICG mainline, today shared by Amtrak, IC, and the KCS. |

SOU 3507 |

A trio of Southern GE's is seen here headed south at Wills Jct on the MP, in Waggaman, LA, just north of Avondale. They were so new that the 3500's were not in my diesel roster book. |

B36-7's |
Description: |
According to the Diesel Locomotive Roster for the time, the trio of B36-7's represents half of the six the Southern owned. I was told by a diesel shop mechanic the reason GE's were scarce in the New Orleans area is because they did not have the special greases used on the GE's. Southern's GE's were rare in New Orleans. |
