The Orient Express deployed the first sleeping and dining cars for long-distance train travel in Europe. Prior to World War I, CIWL held a monopoly being in Europe the only group catering to the needs of the international railroad traveller. The company introduced famous services, such as the Orient-Express, the Nord Express, and the Sud Express and expanded to markets outside Europe with involvement in the Transsibérien across Russia. After WWII CIWL started to focus more on the travel agency and management business. Accordingly it was renamed Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-Lits et du Tourisme (CIWLT) in 1967, and later just called Wagons-Lits. Because the Buchl– drive already proved to be reliable on the Ae 3/6 I, two prototypes of the Ae 4/7 were ordered in 1925. Subsequently, in total 127 were built between 1927 and 1934. These two Ae 4/7 are stored and getting rusty, maybe they never run again. |

The drivers view on the 1952-55 built BDe 4/4. 31 units where built, five of it are still remaining. With one of them, the 1646, several times a year railfans can book a special 4 hours trip on the Gotthard route between Erstfeld and Airolo. |
