WMATA 854 Davenport |
Description: |
Washington METRO Davenport maintenance locomotive 854 handling a railroad flat car in the Metro yard at Alexandria, Virginia, in the spring of 1986. This little machine, with its hand-painted number on the cab, has standard knuckle couplers; on the near end you can see a coupler adapter attached (probably to handle subway cars or maintenance equipment). Date approximate. |

NIPSCO SE-1 |
Description: |
by Esther Fairchild: Northern Indiana Public Service Company Michigan City Generating Station plant locomotive used to handle coal cars through the rotary dumper. Looks like it was made from whatever spare parts were lying around. Sounds like a bulldozer when moving. Notice the single flap-covered stack. |

NIPSCO SE-1 |
Description: |
by Esther Fairchild: another view of the NIPSCO SE-1. You can see the flap-stack better here - right in the middle of the roof. I'm guessing those red tanks on the side near the cab are part of the fire-suppression equipment in case the baby-blue beast lights up. The engine looks like it is set up for remote-control operation, but when I saw it someone was in the cab (hopefully an employee!). These pictures violate my "no fence" policy but the handsome SE-1 seldom, if ever, comes out from behind the fence so these will just have to do for now. |

At first I thought it was a cabless remote control slug, but then I saw the operating "cab" built into the stairwell on the right side! (date approx) |

Elevator switching locomotive, Lakes Farm Services Terre Coupee, IN 9/2010 |
Description: |
This little fellow had only "MOW 1" stencilled on the side; no other identification! I wanted to look closer at him but didn't want to "intrude" on his rest time. |
