Album Info:Origi…nally built by the Southern in 1910 this station served the small community adjacent to it and the nearby Dupont Family Estate. This large estate was built around the home of President James Madison and was known then and today as 'James Madison's Montpelier'. Today the land and buildings are managed by a historical trust which has restored the station to it's origional early 20th century appearance. Two thirds of the building area is devoted an excellent self guided museum which covers both the social, and RR history of the 1910s. The rest of the structure is a U.S. Post Office. Today NS runs several trains a day past the station. If you are in the area an hour at the station will prove quite interesting. If you are interested in the early 19th centruy then the rest of Montpelier is well worth the time... /DL
