Album Info:Gotthard was closed for four weeks during June. In March 2012 a first rock fell on the track. On June 5th suddenly another 2000 m3 / 75'000 cu ft of rock thundered down, hitting three workers, of which one died. Then the Gotthard line was closed for good and on June 18th a blasting team prepared the rock nose and another 2500 m3 / 90'000 ch ft were blown off. On July 2nd the line was opened again, still with construction work for a safety net going on. As other alp transit lines were in reconstruction (Brenner/Austria) and maintenance (Simplon/Switzerland) the North-South traffic came almost to a standstill. As a big part of northern Italien industriy production depends on import/export from northern Europe and its trade harbours, the almost cut of these lifelines had negative effect of the already troubled country. This album shows the rockslide location after blasting and back in service during July.
