Former Illinois Central passenger cars
Description:
This last car was part of a string of several former IC passenger cars, painted in their classic chocolate brown and orange scheme. The last car, most visible of the string, has six-wheel trucks but I don't remember what type of car it was (coach, Pullman, etc).

NKP 1907
Description:
NKP 1907 was part of an excursion train on the Monticello Railway Museum on August 7, 2004. I rode on this open platform car and had a wonderful time that Saturday afternoon! At least in thosg days, though, no passengers could ride this car unless there was a guide to ride along--a definite safety feature.

Clear train order signal, Monticello Railway Museum depot
Description:
The signal is green and the semaphore signals indicate clear as an excursion train heads west to downtown Monticello, IL. I was standing on the open-air flatcar when I took this photo--one of my personal favorites! I hope you like this one, too. My Dad was an "operator" for several years, handing up train orders and inspecting trains much like this volunteer is doing as the train rolls along.

Ex-Southern Railway steam locomotive at the Monticello Railway Museum

This nearly 100-year old locomotive was in pretty rough shape in 2004. I believe there has been a major restoration since that time, but I could be wrong. Check the Museum's web site for a listing of what they've done and what they want to do.

MRYM 191, fireman's side
Description:
This is the fireman's side view of Monticello Railway Museum's Alco-built, 1916, former Republic Steel, 0-6-0 #191. This is the first photo I've ever scanned of a steam engine so I apologize for the less than stellar quality. The date of Aug 1, 2004, is a guess because I don't recall the exact date--but I had a great time here that day! The specifications are taken from the Museum's website (http://www.mrym.org).

Description:
Former CN FPA-4 #6789 was the unit for an excursion train at the Monticello, IL Railway Museum on 6-15-2109. This view shows the engine's front end, and passengers waiting to board the various cars. The depot at the left, Nelson's Crossing, has the ticket office, gift shop, restrooms, and other things. The semaphore signal is in the vertical position, indicating clear, but the train won't leave until the conductor gives the okay. I had not noticed the building on the right, labeled "Kuelbs", before this trip.

Description:
Former CN FPA-4 #6789 was the unit for an excursion train at the Monticello, IL Railway Museum on 6-15-2109. This view shows the engineer's controls. There are four gauges in front of him, other controls on the control stand to his left, and a handset, looking like the receiver part of a telephone, at his right. Interestingly, the handset has the letters "D&RGW" embossed on it! The engineer graciously allowed me to come into the cab and I am grateful beyond words for the opportunity. Be assured, my hands touched nothing except the handrails and my camera during the time I was in the cab chatting with the crew. They have great people at the Monticello Railway Museum!

Description:
Former CN FPA-4 #6789 was the unit for an excursion train at the Monticello, IL Railway Museum on 6-15-2109. This view shows the clear (relatively) smoke from the exhaust stack as 6789 leads the excursion train to downtown Monticello. I leaned out the caboose cupola window to get this shot and probably broke every safety rule in the book!

Nelson Crossing depot
Description:
This depot, called Nelson Crossing, is the main place to purchase tickets or items from the gift shop and browse some of the exhibits. My oldest son and I were there on 6-15-2019, Father's Day weekend, and even though he's in his 30's, he still likes "hangin'" with Dad once in a while. Train rides are a great opportunity for that. The light in the right background is the headlight for ex-CN 6789 which was the power for today's excursion train. The semaphore signal indicates "clear".

MRYM 892, former IC car
Description:
Former Illinois Central car 892 was coupled directly behind the power for today's train at the Monticello Railway Museum on 6-15-2019. I don't remember this car but it definitely makes a good addition to the fleet. My best guess is that this is a combine (coach-and-baggage). With the overcast and sometimes rainy sky that day, I couldn't tell if the car was painted a dark gray or a greenish color. Lettering is definitely in the gold family. Note the brake wheel at the right end of this car.

Along the MRYM right of way
Description:
Several pieces of rail await an uncertain fate lying next to the Monticello, IL, Railway Museum right of way on 6-15-2019. Note also the stacks of cross ties a little ahead of the caboose and passenger car.

Semaphore with two blades and a light
Description:
This signal is a fairly recent addition to the Monticello, IL, Railway Museum. I saw this semaphore with two "blades"--not sure of the accurate term-- for the first time on 6-15-2019. B&O and other lines used semaphores with two blades but I have never seen a semaphore with a searchlight-type signal attached to the mast like this. Further information would be greatly appreciated!

Clear signal ahead-1
Description:
It's hard to see from this far back but the signal has a green light over a red one, meaning "clear". I leanded out of the cupola to grab this shot! This was on the Monticello, IL, railway museum on 6-15-2019.

Clear signal ahead-2
Description:
We're a little closer to the "clear" signal on the Monticello, IL, Railway Museum tracks on 6-15-2019 The ground was level, but I was leaning out of the caboose's cupola window to grab this picture!
