E-L RS3 #1051
Title:  E-L RS3 #1051
Description:  #1051 finally gets clearance to cross the B&O and is headed eastbound on the westbound main. This area is quite different today -- no tower,EL trackage, pole lines,Erie and B&O signals. The CSX Chicago line (and the Cleveland route) are still busy today.

RU Tower at Sterling,Ohio
Title:  RU Tower at Sterling,Ohio
Description:  Looking west at RU Tower in Sterling,Ohio (about 25 miles west of Akron). The New York-Chicago main of the Erie Lackawanna (on the right) crosses the Washington-Chicago B&O line. Both lines paralleld each other for a short distance east and west from the crossing. A short distance past the tower a B&O line northbound to Lorain/Cleveland started. I read where RU Tower was named for the original name of the town -- Russell. Unfortunately, a terrible accident happened at this crossing about 10 years before these shots in 1965. A westbound EL freight (they had clearance) on the far right track collided with a slow moving B&O eastbound (they were eastbound on the westbound track - track just to the left). 5 crewmen were killed. I guess no one will really know why the B&O crew ran the red signal (fell asleep?).
