MILW 2-6-6-2 #9306 - Milwaukee Road
Description:
Nice example of a 1929 Milwaukee Shops workmanship. This loco was rebuilt by them from a 1910 Alco-Schenectady class N-1 #9524. Specs - N3-s class, 57" drviers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 21.5x30" cylinders, engine weight of 390,300 lb, impressive tractive effort of 82,718 lb. The entire class was enumbered in 1938 to the 50-66 range. Jim Scribbins (in Drury, 1993) notes that these engines had the highest tractive effort of any Milwaukee Road (by then the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul, & Pacific) class. Note the unusual "cobra hood" in front like the B&M locos had. No photographer, locaiton or date listed for this photo.

MILW 4-8-4 #202 - Milwaukee Road
Description:
Beautiful original photo by P.F. Johnson of the beefy 4-8-4 Northern style locomotive #202 built by Baldwin in October of 1937. These class S-2s operated mostly as freight haulers from Bensenville (West Milwaukee) to Council Bluffs, Iowa or St. Paul, Minn. Occasionally they'd hook up to the westbound Olympian if it trailed more than twelve cars. This loco lasted until being scrapped in December of 1954 after only 17 years of service. The diesel erra pushed it out. Specs - S-2 class, 74" drivers, impressive 285 psi boiler pressure, 26x32" cylinders, thermic syphon, engine wt 490,450 lb, tractive effort of 70,816 lb. P. F.
