SOU GP7 8211 |
Description: |
Southern Railway GP7 8211 crosses North Carrollton Avenue while working on the Bernadotte Branch. This was one of four GP7's (8210-8213) built in May 1950 for the Southern's Georgia Southern & Florida subsidiary. Prior to the opening of New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal in 1954, this line was used by Southern and GM&O passenger trains for access to the Southern's Terminal Station on Basin Street at Canal Street. |

Description: |
This was a view on the Southern Railway's St. Louis Street branch line at the intersection of St. Louis Street and North Scott Street, facing North Carrollton Avenue. At this location, the track occupied the right-of-way of St.Louis Street, and the railroad's former Scott Street roundhouse -- which closed in the early 1950's -- was just off to the left. The branch was abandoned between South Carrollton and South Broad Street in 2003 and the right-of-way is now a part of the Lafitte Greenway pedestrian and bike trail. |
