SF&D 3 |
Description: |
A Santa Fe & Disneyland passenger train makes a stop at the Main Street station. SF&D 2-4-4T Forney #3 was built by Baldwin in April 1895. The 36"-gauge engine was rebuilt from Godchaux Sugar Company (Louisiana) 0-4-4T #1, and was placed in service at Disneyland on March 28, 1958 (2 years, 8 months and 11 days after the park opened). SF&D #3 is named "Fred Gurley," the president of the Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe Railway from 1944 to 1957, who approved Santa Fes participation as a sponsor at the theme park. (Trivia: Other trains that wore the Santa Fe & Disneyland markings included the Viewliners [modeled after EMDs Aerotrain] and their replacement, the Monorails. Santa Fes sponsorship of these rides lasted from 1955 until 1974 - Three years after the formation of Amtrak!) (Exact date unknown.) |
