GRRY 228 |
Description: |
Grand River Railway 228 at Charles City, Iowa on an unknown day in August 1965, Kodachrome by unknown photographer, Chuck Zeiler collection. Number 228 was built in 1921 by the Preston Car Company in Preston, Ontario, Canada for the Grand River Railway. The company built two locomotives (#'s 226 and 228) for the GRRY, basically a lower roof, higher hood version of the Baldwin-Westinghouse Class D. The GRRY ceased electric operations on October 1, 1961 and the 228 went to the Iowa Terminal Railway, Mason City, Iowa in July 1963. However, the motor was never repainted or used (was to become Iowa Terminal 82) and was scrapped in 1968. |
