Description:  Here's another photo of the massive Duluth, Missabee & Iron Range 2-6-6-4 #236. This articulated Yellowstone type steam locomotive was built by Baldwin in 1941 to meet the needs of power for long ore car drags. Specs - Class M3, 63" drivers, impressive 240 psi boiler pressure, 26x32 cylinders, engine wt 695,040 lb, impressive tractive effort of 140,000 lb. All of the DM&IR Yellowstones were all retired between 1958 and 1963. No photographer was listed for this photo.

Description:  DMIR was in need of a steam locomotive that could handle 115-car, 8750-ton trains over 0.62% grades without stalling, hence the birth of the 2-8-8-4 Yellowstone type loco. This massive giant was built by Baldwin in 1941 and servced until the entire class was retired between 1958-63. Specs - Class M3, 63" drivers, impressive 240 psi boiler pressure, 26x32 cylinders, engine wt 695,040 lb, impressive tractive effort of 140,000 lb. Unknown photographer.
