Description: |
BYC. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by David R. Sweetland that was taken just East of the Brick Yard Crossing in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in March of 1961. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9580 and two more "BF" Class units whose numbers are not recorded. All were built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works. #9580 was built in May of 1949, rated at 1,500 horsepower, and retired in December of 1963 after just 14 years of revenue service. Given the presence of N-8 caboose #478120, they are pushing a freight train up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin where they will uncouple and return to East Altoona for yet another run up "The Mountain." |
