This 2-8-2 Mikado was caught resting in the Enid, OK, yard. Built by Alco-Brooks in September of 1923, it was a very versatile member of the Rock Island roster, capable of heading up passenger or freight trains. Specs - K-64 class, 63" drivers, 200psi boiler pressure, 28x30" cylinders, engine wt of 338,200 lb, and tractive effort of 63,467 lb. With a booster added in 1931, it increased the te by 10,460 lb and with a stoker added, the weight was 347,100 lb. After nearly 26 years of service, the loco was retired and sold for scrap in March of 1949. R. H. Carlson took this photo. |
