Title:
"In Recognition," Page 12, 1987
Description:
Here is a one-page essay by Mark Smith entitled "In Recognition." It was published originally in the July-August 1987 issue of "Locomotive & Railway Preservation" magazine, page 12. Photo Caption: "East Altoona Engine House, 1955. The house switcher shepherds I1sa No. 406 onto the turntable. In two years, history will happen here when I1sa No. 4271 drops its fire ~ the last PRR steam locomotive to do so." Photo by Don Wood. PRR engine #406 is an I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapod" built in Juniata as an I-1S during October of 1918, rebuilt as an I-1SA in August of 1941, and retired in May of 1956 after 38 years of faithful service.
