CB&Q F3 121A |
Description: |
CB&Q F3 121A east of Eola, Illinois on Sunday October 11, 1964, photo by Chuck Zeiler. This locomotive was built during November 1947 (c/n 4465) on EMD Order E790A and was sold for scrap in May 1965 to Precision Engineering. This image is a result of my having missed the eastbound Dinky (commuter train) in Aurora, and the next Dinky was two hours later. Heck, I could walk home (to Naperville, 10 miles east) in two hours, and that's what I did. I shot photos along the way, and this location is about a half mile east of the EJ&E overpass in Eola. As it turned out, the next Dinky beat me to Naperville, but not by much. |

CB&Q F3 122D |
Description: |
A poor image of Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad F3 122D eastbound at Naperville, Illinois on May 16, 1963, photograph by Chuck Zeiler. Obviously, the this train caught me off-guard and I arrived late to the scene. Of interest to CB&Q fans are the MU connections, one of only eight F-units on the Burlington to receive MU connections on the nose in the early 1960's. Number 122D was built in April 1948 (c/n 5875) and traded in January 1967 for new power. |

Description: |
An A-B-B-A set of F3 diesels gets road grime washed off in Galesburg, Illinois, on a sunny October 1959 day. F3A 125-A must have been the trailing unit of the set, as the engines coupler cover is still open (and lead unit 117-A had its coupler cover closed). Burlingtons freight F-units wore this simple, yet attractive, light gray scheme, while the passenger Fs were painted silver. (Frank "Woody" Woodburn photo, Craig Walker collection) |

CB&Q F3 125D westbound at Naperville, Illinois on November 15, 1964, Ektachrome by Chuck Zeiler. This locomotive was built as the trailing cab unit of CB&Q motor (CB&Q term for locomotive) 125, built as an A-B-B-A set of F3's drawbar connected to form a single locomotive, built in May 1948 (c/n 5881) on EMD Order E957A (the B-units were built on EMD Order E957B), and the pictured unit was sold for scrap to Precision Enginering during November 1965. Not my best photo, and I almost didn't bother with it, except it is an historical record of this locomotive in its duties. |

Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad F3 127 at Fort Worth, Texas on an vnknown date in 1950, photograph by R. S. Plummer, print by Gordon C. Bassett, Chuck Zeiler collection. The print is marked: Probably Fort Worth, c. 1950. For purposes of filing on this site, this locomotive is assumed to be 127A. The four units pictured were considered by the railroad and brotherhoods to be a single locomotive, the cab at the other end was also numbered 127. I believe the units are under load test, based on the external cooliog fans. |
