Great Walton's Social Circle Branch |
Description: |
Looking much like something a small child would put together on a amuture model railroad, this former Conrail GP35 has long since lost it's roll as a leading star in Operation Lifesaver films. The unit rest on old SW type frames in Great Walton RR's dead line at Social Circle Ga. many have said that this unit no longer carries a prime mover, but those statements are wrong. After looking over the unit to see what remained of it, it daos still carry it's 567 series prime mover and much of it's original guts... Kept for wieght. No one seems to know what this units future is. |

The elements are taking a toll and rust streaks are starting to form on its blue paint. Thats not too bad but what is a issue is that some low life retard wanna be gansters have defaced the unit as well as several others of Great Waltons. |

PC 2256, GP-35, 1968 |
Description: |
Birmingham. Here is an original photo that I took of a Penn Central Railroad train near Birmingham, Pennsylvania, during May of 1968. Shown here are PC engine #2256 and Southern Pacific Railroad engine #4068. Both were built by GM-EMD. #2256 is a radio-equipped GP-35 built in May of 1964 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. #4068 is a GP-20 built in 1962 and rated at 2,000 horsepower. They are pulling a westbound autorack train. Lots of new Chrysler products on-board! Also visible on the right are my Penn State geology buddies George Howorth and John "Rob" Powanda. (Many thanks to Mr. James Taylor for identifying the Southern Pacific unit!) |

Everyday. Here is an original photo that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad locomotives in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, on 30 August 1964. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #2258 and #2262. Both are EF-25's built by EMD in 1964 and rated at 2,500 horsepower each. They have just passed through the Jones Street crossing on their way to East Altoona after pulling a 75-car mixed-cargo freight train into the Hollidaysburg Yards. The caboose was #477966. Partially visible on the left is a Maintenance-of-Way building. |

Rainy. Here is an original tYlephoto view that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 12 October 1965. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #8656, #8655, #2261, #2360, and #7186-B. #8656 and 8655 are AS-18AM's built by the American Locomotive Company in 1957 and rated at 1,800 horsepower each; they are serving as "helpers" in this context. #2261 and #2360 are EF-25's built by EMD and rated at 2,500 horsepower each; #2261 was built in 1964, but #2360 was built in 1965. #7186-B is an EFS-17M built by EMD in 1957 and rated at 1,750 horsepower. They are about to pass under four-track Signal Bridge #2417/2418 with a 99-car westbound mixed-cargo freight train and N-8 caboose #478151. Bringing-up the rear are "pushers" #6500 and #6306. |
