Beautiful long shot of Duluth Missabe & Iron Range 2-8-8-4 #235, a Yellowstone type wheel configuration. The loco was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in February of 1943 (serial #64714, M4 class) and hauled the long drags of ore cars for nearly 19 years before being scrapped in 1962. Specs - 63" drivers, impressive 240 psi boiler pressure, 26x32" cylinders, engine weight of 699,700 lb, impressive tractive effort of 140,000 lb. An unknown photographer took this impressive shot with both the engineer and fireman dwarfed at the cab window and door by the size of this lcoo.. |

This articulated Yellowstone type steam locomotive was built by Baldwin in 1941 to meet the needs of power for long ore car drags. Specs - Class M3, 63" drivers, impressive 240 psi boiler pressure, 26x32 cylinders, engine wt 695,040 lb, impressive tractive effort of 140,000 lb. All of the DM&IR Yellowstones were all retired between 1958 and 1963. No photographer was listed for this photo. |
