Description:  Lorenz. Here is a photo via Bob Lorenz that was taken at the Passenger Station in Tyrone, Pennsylvania, in May of 1958. It was published originally in the January-February 1974 issue of "PC Railroader" magazine, page 17. Photo Caption: "A three-unit Sharknose pouring on the power rounding the curve at Tyrone, Pa., with a westbound hopper extra, May, 1958." Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9740 and two more "BF" Class units whose road numbers are not recorded. All were built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works. #9740 is a BF-16 constructed in January of 1951, rated at 1,600 horsepower, and retired in July of 1966 after just 15 years of revenue service.

Description:  Mann. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide by an unidentified photographer that was taken near Gallitzin, Pennsylvania, c. 1963. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9741 and two more "BF" Class units whose road numbers are not recorded. #9741 is a BF-16 built by Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton in January of 1951, rated at 1,600 horsepower, and retired in July of 1966 after just 15 years of revenue service. In this context, they're pulling a merchandise freight train up eastern slope of the Allegheny Mountains, and are about to pass through one of the tunnels at Gallitzin on their way West to the Conway Yards. In this context, this A-B set is rockin' 'n' rollin' through the Station with a mixed-cargo freight train bound for Altoona and points West. Note the mail pick-up device at the far right.
