Description:  NORMAN OK -- This undated photo shows southbound Amtrak SDP40f 519 making a station stop in Norman. The light skiff of snow adds to the scene. Of interest (to me at least) is the front end of my 1955 Chevrolet convertible visible at far right. It was a daily driver back then. I still have it and only drive it to car shows and for fun. The date listed for this slide is a best guess.

Description:  Amtrak SW1 732 working hard at about 18th Street in Chicago, Illinois on an unknown day in May 1979, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Number 732 was built in about May 1949 as NYC SW1 605 (c/n 6411) on EMD Order E999, was renumbered to NYC 8431, then PC 8431, then AMTK 245 (2nd), then AMTK 732, final disposition unknown. The ICG's Saint Charles Air Line is the bridge in the background.

Description:  PURCELL OK May 1974 -- Amtrak SDP40F 521 leads train 15 on the journey from Chicago to Houston. It was during this month in 1974 that Santa Fe determined Amtrak no longer met expected service standards and revoked the use of the Chief name on Amtrak trains. The train was renamed the Lone Star. EMD built the 521 (b/n 72694-22_ in June 1973. After being traded in to EMD its internal components were used in the construction of F40PHR 367.
