Title:  KCS 4700
Description:  A very hot and humid July forces the crew to prop the front door open for ventilation. In the distance a strong storm will soon dump rain and cool things down but once the sun returns humidity will take vengance on these poor guys. 4700 now has a KCS applied nose light which will be plated over once these fall out of favor with the company.

We are meeting unmanned KCS train No. 53, led by GP40-2W 4705, just west (railroad south) of the NS crossing at N.E. Tower. A Norfolk Southern crew brought No. 53 here from the KCS connection at Shrewsbury, and the CSX will send a crew out to get the train when they have room for it in their yard.

Description:  I was good at finding roads that followed the tracks; sometimes it paid off. One such was MO 171 north of Joplin, which followed the KCS for a short distance between there and the Kansas line. There was a siding there, at which I caught a meet of a southbound intermodal and an empty coal train.
