Shown here are four Pennsylvania Railroad "Consolidations" built by four different firms. #7234 was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as number "7234" during December of 1913, renumbered "7563" in 1958, and retired in October of 1958. #9989 was built in Juniata as Vandalia H-8C number "419" during February of 1912, rebuilt by Vandalia as H-8SC number "361" in September of 1916, renumbered PRR "8824" in 1917, rebuilt in Juniata as an H-10S in November of 1920, renumbered "9889" in 1951, later renumbered "9989," and retired in August of 1957. #9895 was built by the American Locomotive Company during June of 1913 and retired in October of 1957. #8173 was built by the Lima Locomotive Works during October of 1915 and retired in October of 1957. Here is one of the later H-10s Consolidations built by Alco for the PRR. By now, it has the major improvements developed over the years already built into it giving it a smoother, more solid look. Thanks to Warren Evans (see comment below), the exact location has been identified as the Rose Lake engine house in East St. Loius, Illinois, the last PRR yard and engine house in Illinois before crossing the Mississippi River into St. Louis, Mo.
