CNJ 0-6-0 #25 Camelback - Central of New Jersey RR |
Description: |
Here's a typical yard switcher and crew at work in an unidentified location. Built by the CNJ shops in 1910, the camelback arrangement was a unique solution in the steam engine development. Now it looks like a strange "bird" but I find it interesting and actually pretty in a "Beauty-and-the-Beast" sort of way! Update - thanks to the comment by Daniel Pagdon (see below), I have changed the unknown location to the Elizabethport yards. |

CNJ 0-6-0 #25 - Central RR of New Jersey |
Description: |
Built by the CNJ's own shops in 1910, this 0-6-0 camelback (class B-3b and later 6S31 class) lasted for many years before heading to the scrap heap sometime between 1947-1954. Note the water cascading from the tender due to an overfill. No photographer was given for the photo. |

CNJ 0-6-0C #27 |
Description: |
Good photo by an unknown photographer of the Central RR of New Jersey 0-6-0 camelback switcher. This loco was one of 26 0-6-0C switchers that the CNJ shops built between 1910-1915 (#24-49). No information was given for this photo so "guess-timates" were used for location and date. |

CNJ 0-6-0C #29 - Central RR of New Jersey |
Description: |
This "ugly cute" 0-6-0 camelback was built by the CNJ shops in 1910 for yard use. It was classified as a B3b loco. An unknown photographer caught it in the Elizabethport yards working with the engineer leaning out his window and a faint glimpse of the fireman between the loco and tender. |

CNJ 0-6-0C #35 - Central RR of New Jersey |
Description: |
Edward H. Weber caught this beautifully ugly 0-6-0 "beast" in a storage line at an unidentified spot. The loco was built by the CNJ shops sometime between 1912-15. The B4 class which this loco was in were scrapped between 1945-54 so this very well may be the scrap line instead of spare loco line. No exact location or date given for the photo. |

Central Rail Road of New Jersey 0-6-0 #38 |
Description: |
A rare camelback switcher sits idle in the Elizabethport yard on this clear December day. Buit by the CNJ in 1912 as a B4 class switcher, it serves as an evolutionary step in locomotive construction. Somehow this engine looks cute, almost toylike is some ways and must have been a partial inspiration to the Lionel Corporation early steeple models. Photo credit goes to Milt Ward. |

CNJ 0-6-0C #48 - Central RR of New Jersey |
Description: |
Forlorn looking photo of a 1915 Central RR of New Jersey shops built B4 class camelback switcher sitting in a scrap line in the Elizabethport, NJ, yard taken by an unknown photographer. The photographer spent more time listing the photo specifications on a protective sleeve for the negative than info on the locomotive. Photo Specs - Ciroflex B camera, Exx 120 size film, 1/25th sec, f/11, #4 photo paper |
