Description:  Sharp looking 1929 Baldwin 4-8-4 that the D&RGW labeled a "Western" instead of the more traditional label "Northern". Specifics - class M-64, 70" drivers, impressive 240 psi boiler pressure, 27x30" cylinders, engine weight of 408,500 lb, tractive effort of 63,735 lb. All were scrapped by 1956. To the left rear is DRGW 2-8-0 1029 built by Burnham, Wms & Co in 1902, a "small fry" when next to the massive 4-8-4 sister! Built by Bladwin in 1938, this "Western" type locomotive (Denver & Rio Grande Western preferred that label over the more common "Northern") exudes power and grace. Specifics - class M-68, 73" drivers, impressive 285 psi boiler pressure, 26x30" cylinders, engine weight of 479,360 lb, traqctive effort of 67,299 lb. All were scrapped by 1956.
