1930's stylish, sleek and fast. Delivered to the Milwaukee Road in August of 1938, this was the epitome of 1930's streamlining and speed. Tthe"streamlined "Hudson" (called "Baltic" by Milwaukee) F7s are major contenders for the fastest steam locomotives ever built, as they ran at over 100 miles per hour (160 km/h) daily in the Hiawatha service. The loco was eventually retired in June of 1951. Specs - class F-7, streamlined, 84" drivers, impressive 300 psi boiler pressure, 25.5x30" cylinders, engine weight of 415,000 lb, tractive effort of 50,294 lb. No photographer listed and the date is approximate. |
